A group photograph of women pioneers, building workers from the moshava Migdal (in Israel), has become the source for my latest body of work. This image was part of the series "Rusted Pioneers", which I exhibited in the Israel Museum in 1992. The series contained images of pioneers, who symbolized the zionist myth. They were etched onto steel. Steel, a local material that goes through the natural process of decay. The work questioned the conception of national identity and the place of the zionist ideology today.
